Universal anuncia que va a lanzar The Game en BD el próximo 22 de julio en España. Por el momento no hay más detalles.

En este caso parece que se trata de la primera noticia sobre esta película en Blu-ray, no así en alta definición ya que apareció en HD DVD hace 3 años. En aquella ocasión sin ningún extra y no muy llamativa en lo audiovisual. Esperemos que este futuro BD no se quede ahí.

Sale en Alemania el 5 de agosto y estará en castellano. Aparentemente saldrá sin extras.

Está para reservar en Amazon.de por 13 euros.

The Game saldrá en USA editada por Criterion, posiblemente en los primeros meses de este año aunque la fecha todavía está en el aire. Palabra de Fincher:

Well next thing. I as a fan want The Game on Blu-ray. There’s rumors that it’s coming to Criterion. Is it true?

Fincher: Uh yes.

Do you know when?

Fincher: I don’t, because I haven’t had time to look at it. Here’s what I know…I’ve seen two reels of it or the first three reels and it looked good but I think it’s a question of – because Gramercy was purchased by Universal, I think it’s gone under the Universal home video banner and that they have released very limited funds to finish. And I think that Criterion is having to cobble together…and they’re lovely people and they do amazing work. So I think they’re having to pull every favor that they can in order to be able to make the number work so, I don’t know when that is and I should.

So it’s in the future though…it is coming?

Fincher: I thought it was first quarter of next year, but I’m sure that it won’t happen if I don’t look at the stuff…

I would say that you’re probably involved in it in some way…

Fincher: No, I saw some stuff that looked…you know, again I don’t like revisiting stuff. That’s why I like to put as much effort into finishing it the right way the first time so that you don’t have to go back ‘cuz when you go back it’s like oh my God.

Las ediciones de Criterion son exclusivas para USA, aunque alguna que otra vez las distribuidoras internacionales han llegado a utilizar su material. Se me viene a la cabeza La Delgada Línea Roja, que en USA la editó Criterion y en Europa salió una edición que utiliza el mismo máster y buena parte de sus extras, y está editada por Fox que es la propietaria de los derechos en todo el mundo, USA incluida.

En cualquier caso yo no me haría ilusiones de que Universal saque una nueva edición usando el material de Criterion.

Vaya, yo tengo la europea y la calidad es mala, mala... veo bastante mejora con ésta última

Y cabe alguna posibilidad de que el master de criterion se use en alguna edición europea?

Dependerá de si Universal piensa reeditarla algún día en Europa ya que, por poder, los derechos de la película son suyos en todo el mundo y seguramente pueda acceder al nuevo máster de Criterion.
