La industria del cine de Hollywood obtuvo un récord de taquilla en el extranjero en 2008

NUEVA YORK.- La industria del cine de Hollywood tuvo buenas noticias en 2008 a pesar de la crisis, al conseguir una cifra récord de taquilla: 9.900 millones de dólares, un 4% más que lo conseguido en 2007.

Los seis estudios más importantes de Hollywood —Paramount, Warner Bros, Universal, 20th Century Fox, Sony y Disney— se hicieron cada uno con más de mil millones de dólares por segundo año consecutivo, según publica 'Hollywood Reporter', acorde con las primeras estimaciones hechas por cada distribuidora.

El estudio que más beneficios obtuvo fue Paramount Pictures International con una cifra de 2.037 millones de dólares, lo que supone un 28,2% más que en 2007 y la primera vez que consigue sobrepasar la cifra de los dos mil millones.

La cinta de Paramount 'Indiana Jones y el reino de la calavera de cristal' fue la más taquillera del año en el extranjero con una recaudación de 469,5 millones de dólares. La segunda cinta más taquillera fue 'El caballero oscuro' de Warner Bros, con 465 millones.

Otro de los éxitos de Paramount fueron las producciones de DreamWorks Animation: 'Kung Fu Panda' obtuvo 416,5 millones de dólares ante los 215,4 obtenidos en la taquilla de Estados Unidos. Su otra gran baza fue 'Madagascar 2', que aún se puede ver en las salas del extranjero y que obtuvo en 2008 una cifra estimada de 305 millones.

Por lo que respecta al cine independiente, la mayor distribuidora del país, New Line Cinema, obtuvo 607 millones de dólares, gracias en parte a la adaptación cinematográfica de 'Sexo en Nueva York', que se hizo con una taquilla de 257,4 millones de dólares en el extranjero.

¿Marley & Me ronda casi los 100?

Bedtime, con esencia de Noche en el museo, no me extrañará en absoluto cuando dentro de 2-3 semanas llegue a los 100 (o los sobrepase) y nos encasqueten la 2ª (como con el museo, oiga).

Benjamin, poquito a poco (como la canción de Chambao) va subiendo espumosamente y no me extrañaría que llegase a los 100 (en un 3r. puesto por ahora, no está nada mal). Lo mismo que Yes man, por la cual no daba medio duro y a lo tonto lleva ya 71.

En cambio Valkyrie le cuesta llegar a fin de mes (y Seven Pounds, del imbatible Will lleva 54 aunque tampoco daba muchos duros por El sentido de la felicidad - aunque me hiciese llorar a moco tendidico en el cine - y mirad donde llegó).

Doubt se nota que no interesa a nadie (igual que El intercambio) mientras que Crepúsculo no me extrañaría que llegase a los 200. Y Bolt ha superado los 100. Disney empieza a resarcirse de sus cenizas (si ya consiguió pastuqui con el chihuahua esperaros cuando veais el trailer de lo nuevo de Bruckheimer y Disney sobre unas cobayas haciendo de ¡ESPIAS SECRETOS!).

'Mall Cop' tops at box office
Kevin James comedy takes in $33.8 million

Sony’s Kevin James laffer "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" debuted to an estimated $33.8 million from 3,144 runs in another boom session at the domestic office that saw unexpectedly strong results across the board.

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend was up 31% over last year, and that was only for Friday through Sunday. Studios can look forward to more good business on Monday.

Holdover “Gran Torino,” from Warner Bros., declined a mere 25% to an estimated $22.2 million in its second weekend in wide release for a cume of $73.2 million. Pic, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood, placed No. 2.

Lionsgate’s horror pic “My Bloody Valentine 3-D” narrowly beat Fox Searchlight’s biopic “Notorious,” distributed by big Fox, for No. 3.

“Valentine”--the widest 3-D release to date--grossed an estimated $21.9 million from 1,033 3-D locations and 1,501 conventional runs.

“Notorious,” about slain rap artist Christopher Wallace, a.k.a. Biggie Smalls and Notorious B.I.G., grossed an estimated $21.5 million from 1,638 theaters.

Paramount family comedy “Hotel for Dogs,” from DreamWorks, grossed an estimated $17.7 million in its debut to place fifth for the three-day weekend.

On the specialty side, Golden Globe winners saw a nice bump. Searchlight’s “Slumdog Millionaire”--which won for best drama, best director and best screenplay--saw a 56% uptick, grossing an estimated $5.9 million from 582 theaters for a cume of $42.7 million in its 10th sesh.

Elsewhere on the top 10 chart, Fox holdover “Bride Wars” declined 44% in its second frame to an estimated $11.8 million from 3,228 runs for a cume of $37.6 million in its 10th day in release.

Universal/Rogue Picture’s horror title “The Unborn” dipped a respectable 50% in its second weekend to an estimated $9.8 million from 2,359 theaters for a cume of $33.1 million.

Ed Zwick’s drama “Defiance,” a Paramount Vantage release, placed No. 8 as it went wide. Film grossed an estimated $9.2 million from 1,789 runs for a cume of $9.5 million.

Christmas hit “Marley & Me,” from Fox, grossed an estimated $6.3 million from 2,952 runs for a cume of $132.7 million in its fourth sesh.
