Joss Whedon has been in the news a lot lately. One, for talking about how much he does not want to direct
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and
Part 2, and two, for rallying against a lack of female superhero movies. As it turns out, before he agreed to make
Avengers: Age of Ultron, he had his sights set on directing a vigilante-type superhero movie with a woman it it's core.
The movie, which he likens to
The Dark Knight, would have been made with Warner Bros. and DC. Before he came aboard the first
Avengers, he was actually supposed to direct
Wonder Woman for the studio. About the movie that could have been, had
Age of Ultron not gotten in the way, he says:
"I was thinking about, Well, if I wasn't' going to do Avengers 2, what would I want to do? Of course the first thing I thought of was 'turn-of-the-century female Batman.' Not Batman actually. But, you know, something cool. One person. Can't stress that enough. Movie about one person - not a team, not 10, just one. But [I would] do a nice sort of hard action movie that combined all my favorite things. Something that would be the love child of Sam Fuller and Edward Gorey. You know, I've had many thoughts since then. Oh, I could do this! Oh, I could do that! But it is my instinct to want to tell those stories."
It's believed that
Joss Whedon will step aside and let
Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors
Joe Russo and
Anthony Russo direct
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and
Part 2. There is the possibility that
Joss will stay with Marvel, though, and maybe even direct
Captain Marvel. There is no evidence that
Joss Whedon will pack up his bags and head to DC after
Avengers: Age of Ultron, but that's not out of the question. It isn't known if he was considering a take on Batgirl and her alter ego Barbara Gordon, or if it would have been Batwoman Bette Kane. Or even a rebooted female version of Bruce Wayne. We may never know, but then again...Maybe it will happen? Stranger things have.
