Los 100 mejores discos de Jazz según Jazz 100 (enlazados a Spotify)

Si le hemos dedicado un espacio a una lista con los mejores álbumes del pop y el rock, no puedo dejar de publicar también alguna lista con los mejores álbumes del Jazz, aunque esta selección se me antoja aún más personal y complicada.

No obstante, si consultamos la infinidad de listas que hay confeccionadas, hay un cierto criterio homogéneo en cuáles son los mejores discos del Jazz, aunque dependiendo del editor de la misma, nos encontraremos con una mayor o menor tendencia hacia el extremo más free y avantgarde, o hacia épocas más tempranas y tranquilas.

Esta selección está realizada por http://jazz100.sffjazz.com y creo que puede reflejar bien la opinión general, aunque si yo tuviera que hacer una selección personal nunca elegiría estos 100 y la década de los 50 y el Hard Bop tendría mucho más peso, pues es lo que más me gusta.

Ver Mahavishnu Orchestra: Birds of Fire, me produce una profunda emoción, la lista en sus primeros 50 está muy bien en general muchos están en mi top personal y representan piezas fundamentales en la construcción y desarrollo del género.

Dave, eso que dices es muy cierto y es el motivo fundamental por el que publico esta lista, que está bastante alejada de mis gustos personales, pero que es algo así como la espina dorsal de la evolución del Jazz.

Ahí están casi todos los puntos de inflexión en la evolución del género, desde sus orígenes con ese excelente Hot Fives & Sevens hasta el Birds of Fire que tanto te gusta de Mahavisnu entrados y en los setenta.

Por medio están los giros que trajeron Charlie Parker con el Bop, Miles Davis alargando las notas con su Birth of the Cool, Morgan o Silver y el Hard Bop, Monk... Monk es Monk, Bill Evans y el jazz modal, Coltrane o Rollins con sus saxos tan característicos y expresivos, Ornette Coleman y su introducción al Free, todo aderezado con maestros capaces de sostener un género por si mismos como Duke Ellington o Dave Brubeck...

Yo tenía una lista parecida en Spotify, pero tenerlo asi es un plus... Estoy ahora mismo con Buena Vista Social Club... fantástico el Latin Jazz... algo en mi sintoniza con esos ritmos caribeños y esa Cuba mágica

Ya tenéis los siguientes cincuenta disponibles. Seguro que más de uno de los que esperábais ver en los primeros cincuenta los encontráis en el segundo grupo, aunque también es posible que no sea así.

De cualquier manera, me parece una buena lista que valora no sólo la calidad musical sino el impacto que determinado trabajo ha tenido para el género. Sólo así entiendo la inclusión del Live In Paris de Diana Krall, que me parece una buena producción, un producto perfectamente vendido y que llegó a muchísima gente y revitalizó a principios de los 2000 el Jazz Vocal, pero que musicalmente se me queda un poco corto con respecto a otros como para estar entre los 100 primeros.

Podría decirse que tengo "desgastado" el DVD de esa sesión... esa noche de 1985 se llenó con la magia de aquellos que dominaban la escena del Hard Bop a finales de los 50 y principios de los 60, y seguían estando en plena forma.

La versión de Cantaloupe Island con la que comienza es fabulosa.
